I. General Conduct
- Professionalism
- Act responsibly, maturely, and professionally at all times.
- Maintain composure regardless of patient behavior.
- Personal Boundaries
- If a scene makes you uncomfortable (e.g., patient being sexual, excessively disrespectful), transport the patient to Pillbox Medical Center for check-in.
- Report any inappropriate behavior through proper channels.
- Confidentiality
- Adhere to patient confidentiality rules as per HIPAA regulations.
- Safety Protocols
- Prioritize personal safety. If a scene is dangerous, contact Police Department (PD) and await scene security.
- In case of threats or hostage situations:
a. Attempt to reason with the perpetrator.
b. Comply with demands if necessary to ensure safety.
c. Seek opportunities to alert PD or escape safely.
- Legal Compliance
- Do not engage in illegal activities, on or off-duty.
- Abide by all laws at all times.
- Identification
- Always identify yourself as EMS when interacting with Law Enforcement Officers, both on and off-duty.
II. Medical Transport Procedures
- Communication
- Maintain clear, professional, and polite radio communications.
- Inform dispatch of which calls you are responding to.
- Radio in upon arrival at the scene.
- When transporting a patient, radio in with a brief summary of injuries.
- Notify dispatch when returning from a scene.
III. Chain of Command
- Authority
- Comply with instructions from Field Training Officers (FTOs), supervisors, and command staff.
- Equipment Usage
- Only use equipment you are authorized to operate.
- Do not use medical equipment while off-duty.
IV. Disciplinary Actions
- Decision Process
- Warnings, strikes, or dismissals will be voted on by command staff.
- Infractions and Consequences
- Disobeying orders from command members may result in a warning or strike, depending on severity.
- Disrespecting command, superiors, or team members may result in a warning or strike, depending on severity.
- Misuse of medical equipment or vehicles (e.g., personal use) may result in a warning or strike.
- Participating in illegal activities will result in either a strike or dismissal.
- Dismissal Policy
- Three strikes generally result in dismissal from SAFR.
- SAFR reserves the right to dismiss personnel for severe SOP violations or criminal activities.
- All dismissals are subject to command staff vote.
V. Shift Procedures
- Start of Shift
- Ensure body camera is enabled and functioning.
- Do not report for duty while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
- Verify possession of all necessary equipment for duty.
- End of Shift
- Radio dispatch to inform them you are going off-duty.
- Ensure all SAFR equipment is returned before leaving.
