The following examples illustrate how to apply SAFR guidelines in specific scenarios. Remember to always prioritize scene safety, use your professional judgment, and only use equipment and treatments that are authorized for your role.
Low Risk Scenes
Fires/Burns
- Upon arrival, locate patients.
- If available, request PD for traffic control.
- Use ambulance to block traffic if necessary.
- Safely approach and retrieve patients.
- Assess airways; apply Neckbrace if head/neck trauma is suspected.
- Use Bandages or Body Bandages to cover burns and protect from infection.
- Administer Saline Infusion for severe cases to prevent shock.
- For pain management, use Morphine 30mg for critical cases (if authorized by a Doctor or Lead Paramedic).
- Follow mass casualty procedure if more than two patients per medic.
- Transport to hospital immediately.
Minor to Moderate Vehicle Accidents (1-3 Vehicles)
- Locate patients upon arrival.
- Request PD for traffic control if available.
- Use ambulance to block traffic if necessary.
- Retrieve patients safely.
- Assess airways; apply Neckbrace for suspected head/neck injuries.
